South Carolina, Georgia expecting record-breaking flooding from Hurricane Helene

DOES THAT SYSTEM START COMING TO OUR AREA AS WELL? ERIN, WE HAVE SO MUCH RAINFALL OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. I WAS JUST TRYING TO TAKE A SECOND JUST TO GO OVER SOME OF THE LATEST RAINFALL TOTALS. I MEAN, IT JUST DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE. HENDERSONVILLE FOR INSTANCE, ANYWHERE FROM 7 TO 8IN OF RAIN ALREADY. MEANWHILE, YOU GO TO SPARTANBURG. IT’S BEEN ABOUT HALF AN INCH, YOU KNOW, SINCE SEVEN, 8:00 THIS MORNING, BUT THAT ALL OF THESE TOTALS ARE GOING TO GO UP AND UP. HERE’S THE LATEST ADVISORY FOR HURRICANE HELENE, A VERY STRONG CATEGORY TWO STILL EXPECTED TO BE A STRONG CATEGORY THREE AT LANDFALL, MAKING LANDFALL TONIGHT, BY THE WAY JUST SOUTH OF TALLAHASSEE AS THE CURRENT PROJECTION. AND THEN OF COURSE WHAT IS LEFT OVER HEADS OUR WAY. I’LL TELL YOU, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS YESTERDAY, BUT IT’S NOT TOO LATE. IF YOU’D LIKE TO DO A STORM CHECKLIST, GO AHEAD AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NONPERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS, YOUR FIRST AID KIT, ALL OF YOUR DEVICES CHARGED JUST IN CASE YOU’RE ONE OF THOSE THAT LOSE ELECTRICITY. I THINK THERE’S GOING TO BE MANY. IN FACT, FLASHLIGHTS IN YOUR IN YOUR BATTERIES IN YOUR FLASHLIGHTS. YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THAT LOTS OF EXTRA WATER ON HAND, NOT JUST FOR DRINKING BUT FOR BATHING. MAKE SURE YOUR MEDICATIONS ARE FILLED, GAS FOR YOUR CAR. GO AHEAD AND GAS UP IF YOU CAN. GAS FOR GENERATORS AND CASH ON HAND BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T HAVE ELECTRICITY, YOU CAN’T SWIPE A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD. HERE’S A LOOK AT ALL THE RAINFALL WE HAVE RIGHT NOW. IT JUST KEEPS COMING AND COMING AND COMING. AND GUESS WHAT THAT IS GOING TO BE THE CASE ALL AFTERNOON AND ALL NIGHT LONG. WE ARE CURRENTLY LINKED TO THE GULF OF MEXICO. WE ARE GETTING A STEADY STREAM OF MOISTURE OR RAINFALL FROM THERE AND UNTIL WE START TO GET SOME OF THESE OUTER BANDS AND KIND OF KNOCK SOME OF THE STALLED OUT COLD FRONT OUT OF THE WAY, IT’S GOING TO CONTINUE. SO WHAT AM I SAYING? WELL, I’M SAYING TODAY THIS AFTERNOON, TONIGHT, WE’VE GOT A LOT MORE RAIN, SEVERAL INCHES MORE RAIN. SOME OF US WILL HAVE LIGHT RAIN AT TIMES, WHILE OTHERS ARE GETTING ROUNDS OF HEAVY RAIN. AND THEN THAT MODERATE HEAVY RAIN WILL MOVE OVER TO YOU. SO AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT THE MOUNTAINS WHICH HAVE ALREADY HAD WAY TOO MUCH RAIN, BILTMORE VILLAGE, THE RIVER NEAR YOU, PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE A RECORD CREST. NEVER HAD A CREST LIKE THAT BEFORE ON RECORD, AT LEAST SINCE THE EARLY 1900S. LOOK AT THIS. IN THE MOUNTAINS 60S AND WET ALL DAY. SO MUDSLIDES? ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE AS WELL AS WE TAKE A LOOK, NOT JUST DOWNED TREES AND DOWNED POWER LINES. WE’VE GOT A LOT OF RAIN, A LOT OF WATER, A LOT OF SATURATED SOIL. AND I HAVEN’T EVEN REALLY TALKED ABOUT THE WIND GUSTS YET. THESE ARE GOING TO BE SIGNIFICANT WITH THE BRUNT BEING
